SCHOOLS RECEIVE EXEMPTION FROM STATE PREMIUM TAX THROUGH MEC PURCHASING COOPERATIVE

The Metropolitan Educational Council (MEC) has received Certificate of Authority and Recognition under Section 1731.021 of the Ohio Revised Code as a Health and

Wellness Alliance.

The Alliance qualification allows MEC Members to be exempt from the State Premium Tax on Insurance Plans. MEC Members with 2-500 health insurance eligible employees

will receive a 1% reduction in premium upon their insured effective date or renewal with

United Healthcare.

"The Alliance approval enables us to provide our members with a direct and immediate savings to their United Healthcare plans. In the current legislative environment, we are looking for every savings opportunity available in the educational sector…"

Ron Miller, MEC Executive Director.

The MEC Health and Wellness Alliance was signed under Certificate of Authority by

Ohio’s Lt. Governor/Director of Insurance, Mary Taylor, on April 13, 2011.
